Many have asked ... Why are you leaving your family, friends, jobs and your church? Why Northern Colorado? Mark 16:15 And He said to them, go into all the world and proclaim the Gospel to the whole creation.
Over the past 7 years God has been working to prepare us to plant a church. It started at the end of 2010 when we felt God calling us to step our of our comfort zone; to place complete trust in Him; to serve a lost community. Feeling an urgent need to share the Gospel, Josh began teaching through God's Word to a small group in a home, which quickly grew into a church plant. The church formed and he served as one of the lead Pastors until our current church called him to serve as their lead Pastor. Stepping into an established church as a new Pastor was one of the most difficult and rewarding challenges we have encountered. We have faced many difficult situations and decisions but through prayer and obedience, God protected and allowed the church to be revitalized. It is healthier now more than ever. Over the past few years we have traveled to multiple places, praying for God to reveal to us the place we must go and serve. One Sunday morning last summer, while worshipping at a small church in Colorado during our family vacation, the Holy Spirit convicted us both and put Colorado on our hearts. God quickly started revealing His plan and we feel that Northern Colorado is the place God wants us to plant a church.
While Colorado is a very beautiful place, it is very spiritually dark. Colorado continuously has among the highest suicide rates in the Nation. Only 8.2% of the population are affiliated with Evangelical Church, 75% of the population are not affiliated with any religious body and 0.68% attend an SBC church. The area known as the Front Range of Colorado stretches from Colorado Springs to Fort Collins with Denver as the central hub. This area is a very diverse and quickly growing area. The population of Northern Colorado grew by more than 100,000 people between 2000-2010. The number is expected to grow to more than 700,000 by 2020. A vital need for planting new churches exists between the urban core and the suburbs. All types of young adults, who have spiritual curiosities and needs are settling into these zones. Our mission is to Glorify God, bless the community, build genuine gospel centered relationships and multiply disciples.
So, Josh will retire from the Tyler Police Department in July after serving our community 20 years. I too will be leaving my job with Southside Bank in August after spending my last 17 years there. While some say it's probably not the best financial decision for our family, it's what God is calling us to do and we know that God will provide for our family. Matthew 6:31-33 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Garrett will continue his studies at Dallas Baptist University, where he will soon be a Junior. Both of our children completely understand our calling and fully support our family's decision. Please pray for our family - Pray for protection, guidance, obedience, strength, peace and God's provisions. Pray for County Line Baptist Church - for their leadership, for servant hearts, dedicated followers, for the lost to be saved and the community to be reached. Pray for the unsaved people of Northern Colorado - for God to prepare their hearts and minds, open their eyes and ears to accept the Gospel, for Him to save the lost. We would love for you to partner with us in prayer.
We also ask that you prayerfully consider supporting our ministry financially. We have put our complete trust in God to provide for our needs and the needs of the ministry.
